Progress in The Eternal Abyss is not a single required tower order. The experience expects advanced obby skill, offers little handholding, and spreads changing tower rosters across four documented areas. A useful path starts by reading the live difficulty chart, choosing a route near your repeatable level, practicing its hardest segments, and moving up only when the clear teaches a transferable skill.

Choose the right starting page

If your current hardest clear is far below Insane, begin with fundamentals in a more forgiving obby environment before treating TEA as your main progression game. Tower of Naive Facades is an Easy exception, but most of the experience is designed around Soul-Crushing difficulty.

Use a skill ladder, not a name ladder

Record the movement that ends your runs: wraps, precise alignment, moving-platform timing, collision-sensitive techniques, camera changes, or endurance. Then choose a tower that trains one or two of those demands near your current level. A famous tower is not automatically a useful next tower.

Community discussions repeatedly mention Steeple of Esoteric Arcane and Tower of Reddish Monolith as first-SC choices. SoEA concentrates flipping and timing in a short steeple; ToRM asks for steadier execution across ten floors. The right choice depends on whether your weakness is raw technique or holding consistency through a full route.

Turn Practice Mode into real progress

Use Practice Mode to answer a specific question, not to wander through a tower with unlimited corrections. Set a state before the weak segment, repeat it until the setup is understood, then move the state backward. Finish by running linked floors without loading.

All-Jump can expose every individual transition, but completing a jump once does not establish route consistency. Group jumps into meaningful sections and measure whether the completion time and failure pattern improve. Return to a normal run only when the closing segment is no longer novel.

Separate practice sessions from legitimate attempts. A technique session can be successful without a personal best. An endurance session can be successful if camera and pacing remain stable. This prevents every visit from becoming an emotional all-or-nothing grind.

Read difficulty and punishment together

The community chart organizes towers from Easy through Insane, Extreme, Terrifying, Catastrophic, Horrific, and Unreal. Exact decimal ratings can change. Portal warnings describe risks that the number does not: Punishing, Inconsistent, Loopfaily, Jank, Traps, and Scary.

A shorter higher-rated steeple may be more manageable than a slightly lower-rated tower with extreme length and punishment. Compare type, expected duration, route direction, warnings, and required techniques. The Difficulty Chart guide explains how to read these fields without treating them as a universal tier list.

Use milestones without farming bad habits

Official Roblox data confirms badges for 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, and 150 Towers. It does not publicly explain whether every completion counts across every area, how historic clears are backfilled, or what happens when a tower moves. Watch the live completion counter and badge response.

Do not repeat only the easiest available route simply to chase a total unless the game clearly counts repeated clears. A healthy milestone path uses new towers to broaden skills. If a count does not change, stop and confirm the rule rather than assuming the badge system is broken.

Review progress after every clear

Write down the tower, area, live difficulty, warning, hardest segment, and the practice method that solved it. Then choose a next project that adds one new demand while preserving several skills you already control. Jumping from a short low Insane steeple to an extremely long Unreal because both are popular ignores the largest parts of the difficulty difference.

If progress stalls, reduce scope. Practice one floor, one moving cycle, or one camera transition. If frustration rises while accuracy falls, stop the session. The official game description makes lost progress part of the expected experience, but it does not require you to practice while tilted.

Recheck the live chart after every substantial update. A changed rating, warning, portal, or area placement can turn yesterday’s sensible next project into a poor match for today’s session. Keep the observation date beside every personal recommendation.

Progression FAQ

What should I do first?

Read the Beginner Guide, scout the Main Area, and use ToNF to understand the experience. Do not assume TEA’s Soul-Crushing entries are intended for a new Roblox obby player.

What is a good first Soul-Crushing tower?

Current discussions most often point to SoEA and ToRM. Try both in practice and choose by repeatability, not popularity.

Do badge completion counts show difficulty?

No. Badge awards reflect history and player activity. They are not a controlled rating or a live roster guarantee.
